Introduction to Oxana Timofeeva's lecture

Alexandra Leykauf

During the exhibition Alexandra Leykauf & Dominik Styk: „What We Do in the Shadows“ (19 Feb - 15 May 2022) Oxana Timofeeva was invited to give a lecture with the title „The Soul of Metamorphosis: Plant, Animal, Human“ upon recommendation of Alexandra Leykauf.

The lecture itself was preceded by this introduction in which Alexandra Leykauf traces her interest in Oxana Timofeeva’s research and writing by connecting it to her own artistic practice: From landscape painting to object subject relations to the desire to recognize oneself to cave paintings.

Alexandra Leykauf investigates the relationship between image and viewer, and context and space working with photographic imaging processes. Leykauf exploits the gaze as both a communicative and deceptive element. The image in turn quite often looks back.
